Britta Petersen (Luck/Luck)'s (Luck) shot with 9:20 left tied the game and
Cassie Bandow's (Plover) jumper with 8:42 remaining gave the Pointers the lead for good as the 25th-ranked Pointer women's basketball team battled back from a nine point first half deficit to secure a 51-47 victory over UW-Oshkosh.
The Pointers opened the game in convincing fashion, building a 14-6 lead over the Titans midway through the opening half before
Britta Petersen (Luck/Luck) and
Ashley Averkamp (New Berlin) were forced out of the game due to foul trouble. The Titans took full advantage and rattled off a 19-2 run to jum in front by nine, 25-16, with just over two minutes remaining in the half.
The Pointers chipped away at the deficit just before the half and went into the locker room at halftime down just three, 25-22.
In the second half, the Pointers kept the Titans within striking distance, and with 9:20 remaining, Petersen's jumper knotted the score at 38 and under a minute later, Bandow's bucket gave the Pointers the lead for good, as the Pointers went ahead by as many as nine down the stretch and secured the four point victory.
UW-Stevens Point shot 35.3 percent from the floor for the game but held UW-Oshkosh to just 16 made field goals (16-42) and caused 21 Titan turnovers.
Petersen led the way with 16 points on 6-of-9 shooting while
Andrea Flease (New London) chipped in 10 points.
Ashley Windt (Hurley) finished as the team's leading rebounder, collecting six boards.
Heidi Baerenwald led the Titans with a double-double, scoring 12 points and collecting 11 rebounds, six offensive.
