COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – The 21st-ranked UW-Stevens Point wrestling team posted six place finishers on Saturday afternoon at the North Country Open, hosted by St. John's University. No team scores were kept at the event.
Highlights from the day included
Bret Oswald (Antigo/Antigo), who advanced all the way to the finals of the 285 pound division, recording three victories before falling 3-2 in the championship match to top seeded Jake Ketter of Minnesota.
After suffering a loss in the opening round of the 197 pound weight class,
Steve Wozniak (Neillsville/Greenwood) went on a tear, earning five straight victories, three by pin, on his way to a third place finish.
Dennis Reckelberg (New Franken/Luxemburg-Casco) tallied two victories at 174 in the opening rounds before heading to the consolation bracket where he advanced to the third place match.
Shane Sweeney (Madison, WI/Edgewood) earned three and advanced to the seventh place match before falling to fifth seeded Cody Hansen of Augsburg
Kris Magruder (Racine/Case) tallied two wins before heading to the consolation bracket and winning two more, finishing seventh.
Jordan Schulte (Mosinee, WI/Mosinee) tallied two victories at 165 before suffering a loss and heading to the consolation bracket where he finished with two more victories, finishing seventh.
The Pointers return to action on Feb. 5 when they host UW-Whitewater in their final regular season conference dual of the season. Action begins at 7 p.m. in Berg Gym.
