Pointers Fall to Green Knights 3-1

Box Score

STEVENS POINT – Coming off their first road win of the season last weekend, the Pointer men's hockey team was unable to carry the momentum to their home ice, falling to third-ranked St. Norbert College 3-1 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) action Thursday evening.

The win by the Green Knights gives them a three game sweep of the season series, as they improve to 16-3-1 overall, 11-2 in NCHA play. The Pointers now fall to 9-10-1 overall, 4-9-1 in league play.

St. Norbert took an early 1-0 lead at the 5:23 mark of the game's opening period, as Kurt Astle found the back of the net for the only score of the opening period.

In the second, the Green Knights pushed their advantage to 2-0, as Tyler Allen scored off an assist from Matt Boyd and Shane Wheeler.

The Pointers cut the deficit in half at the 15:10 mark of the second as Jonny Meo flicked the puck off St. Norbert keeper B.J. O'Brien and into the net, off a pass from Nick Kenney (Wixom, MI/Walled Lake Western).

In the third, St. Norbert added a goal in the game's final minutes to make the final 3-1.

Nick Graves (Hewitt, WI/Ashwaubenon) and O'Brien each finished with 23 saves in goal on the night.

St. Norbert outshot the Pointers 26-24 but neither team was able to capitalize on their power play opportunities, as the Green Knights finished the evening 0-5 while the Pointers were 0-3.

UW-Stevens Point returns to action on Friday evening as the team travels to UW-Eau Claire for a 7 p.m. match-up with the Blugolds.
