RIVER FALLS – The UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team picked up its first road win in conference play this season, as
Luke Nesper (Eagle River, WI/Northland Pines) scored twice, giving the Pointers a 2-1 win over the UW-River Falls Falcons.
The Pointers struck first, taking the early lead at the 3:29 mark of the first period, as Nesper found the back of the net off a pass from
Travis Erstad (Stevens Point, WI/SPASH) and
Garrett Suter (Madison/Oregon) on the power play to give the Pointers a 1-0 lead.
The Falcons answered midway through the second, scoring shorthanded and tying the score at a goal apiece.
At the 14:10 mark of the third, Nesper struck again, this time off a pass from
Kent Detlefsen (Lakeville, MN/Rochester) and Erstad, giving the Pointers the lead and the victory over the 11th-ranked Falcons.
The Pointers out-shot the Falcons 44-20 on the evening.
Nick Graves (Hewitt, WI/Ashwaubenon) earned the victory in net for the Pointers, stopping 19 shots on the evening.
The Pointers return to action when they host St. Norbert College in NCHA action on Thursday, Jan. 28 at K.B. Willett Arena. Fans are encouraged to “White Out” the Willett. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
