Falcons Strike Late to Defeat Pointers

RIVER FALLS - Two power play goals in the third period erased a 4-2 deficit for the UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team, but UW-River Falls scored a late goal, ending the Pointers six game unbeaten streak with a 5-4 victory Friday evening at Hunt Arena.

River Falls struck first, scoring a goal in the game's first minute, putting the Pointers behind 1-0. Harrison Niemann (Canton, MI) answered back just less than two minutes later, on the power play, tying the score at a goal apiece. The Falcons answered before the end of the first period, taking a 2-1 lead after two.

In the second, Jon Madden (Brighton, MI) again evened the score for the Pointers but two more goals from River Falls again put the Pointers in a two goal deficit at the end of the second period.

In the third, Nic Polaski (Delafield) and Garrett Suter (Madison) scored on power play opportunities, knotting the score at four goals apiece.

With time running out, the Falcons scored the game-winner, as Sean Roadhouse scored his sixth goal of the season for River Falls, giving the host Falcons the victory.

Thomas Speer (Janesville) tallied 24 saves on the evening for the Pointers while Bo Storozuk recorded 21 saves for River Falls in the victory.

Stevens Point (8-9-1, 3-8-0 NCHA) and #11 River Falls (11-5-2, 5-4-2 NCHA) return to action in the second game of the series. The puck is scheduled to drop at 7 p.m.
