MADISON – The first leg of a 1,000-plus mile road trip ended with a win for the Pointers on Monday evening, as
Britta Petersen (Luck) poured in 21 points and the Pointers held a short-handed Edgewood College team to just 27.7 percent shooting for the game en route to a 61-47 victory.
This was the first of a three-game road trip for the Pointers that criss-crosses the state and sees the Pointers travel 1,050 miles for games in Madison, Platteville and Superior.
With the game tied at 11 midway through the opening half, the Pointers used an 11-3 run to open up an eight point advantage, 22-14, with just over seven minutes left in the first half. Edgewood chipped away at the Pointer lead, cutting their deficit to just two, 26-24, heading into halftime.
The Eagles continued to chip away at the Pointer lead and tied the game at 34 at the 15:15 mark of the second half. From there, the short Edgewood bench began to take its toll, as UW-Stevens Point began to pull away, cruising to the 14 point victory.
Petersen collected seven rebounds and added two steals to her 21 point while
Josi Schultz (Eau Claire) added 14 points and seven boards off the bench.
Emily Decorah led Edgewood with 18 points.
UW-Stevens Point (11-3) returns to action on Wednesday, Jan. 13 when they travel to UW-Platteville for a 7 p.m. match-up with the Pioneers.
