Maroon down Pointers in Double Overtime

CHICAGO – The No. 24 ranked UW-Stevens Point women's soccer team dropped their nonconference match-up on Wednesday afternoon to the 18th-ranked Maroon of the University of Chicago 1-0 in double overtime.

The Pointers took a scoreless tie against the Maroons past the 101st minute, but Chicago's Brooke Bontz took a breakaway pass from Emily Benoit and found the back of the net for her third goal of the season at the 101:39 mark, giving the Maroon the victory.

Chicago outshot the Pointers 16-5 on the day and held the advantage in corner kicks 13-2.

Goalkeeper Liz Hunter (Stevens Point) tallied six saves on the day while her Maroon counterpart Emma Gormley recorded five in the shutout.

The Pointers (5-2, 2-0 WIAC) return to action on Saturday, Sept. 26 when they host UW-Whitewater at the Point Soccer Bowl in Stevens Point. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
