Men’s Cross Country opens season with fifth place finish

WHITEWATER – The 15th ranked UW-Stevens Point men's cross country team opened the season on Saturday afternoon with a fifth place showing at the UW-Whitewater Invitational.

The Pointers finished with a team score of 143. UW-Platteville took home the team title with a score of 31, host UW-Whitewater finished second with 39 points. UW-La Crosse and UW-Oshkosh rounded out the top four.

On the day, Mark Mitchell (Franklin) had the top finish for the Pointers, posting a time of 27:15, good for 22nd place. Kyle Johnson (Beloit) finished two spots behind Mitchell in 24th with a time of 27:19.

Jon Trzebiatowski (Rosholt) finished in 38th place with his time of 27:51, David Litsheim (Appleton) finished 42nd with a time of 28:00, Adam Lang (Sheboygan) finished 50th overall with a time of 28:13 and Jacob Cox (Berlin) finished 51st with a time of 28:15 and Spencer Houk (Sun Prairie) placed 59th with a score of 28:29 to round out the place finishers for UW-Stevens Point.

The Pointers return to action next weekend, Sept. 25, at the Augustana Invitational in Rock Island, Ill.
