Michaela Rheineck (St. Paul, MN) tallied 19 kills and
Christina Brinkman (Bristol) added 14 as the Pointers finished day one of the 28th annual Augsburg Volleyball Invitational Tournament with a 1-1 record, falling to host Augsburg 3-0 before defeating cross-state foe Lawrence 3-1.
Augsburg (5-1) hit an impressive .342 and had 12 blocks against the Pointers in the day's first match, as Rhineck tallied nine kills on 19 total attempts for a .316 attach percentage.
Lizzy Taylor (Eau Claire) recorded 17 digs in the loss while
Kaitlin Wolfe (Roscoe, IL) recorded 14 assists.
Against Lawrence (5-4), both Rhineck and Brinkman recorded double-digit kills, each posting 10, as the Pointers recorded their third victory of the season.
Chantel York (Lake Geneva) led the way with 17 assists while Taylor and
Kati Rau (Dorchester) tallied 17 and 11 digs respectively.
The Pointers return to action Saturday against St. Thomas before taking on an opponent, yet to be determined, in the final round of the tournament.
