STEVENS POINT-The UW-Stevens Point volleyball team dropped both matches of their season opening triangular to UW-Eau Claire and UW-Whitewater Tuesday at Berg Gym by scores of 3-0.

Against the Blugolds the Pointers lost matches of 25-22, 25-16, 25-21 and against the Warhawks 25-12, 25-20, 25-23.

In the first game the Pointers kept it close but just came up short. Christina Brinkman (Bristol) made her UWSP debut by hitting .273 with eight kills and four aces. Kaitlin Wolfe (Roscoe, IL) also made her Pointer debut leading UWSP with 11 assists and Lizzy Taylor (Eau Claire) contributed with 12 digs.

The Blugolds were led by Rachel Ver Voort (Madison, Wisc.) with 14 kills and Amanda Lessner with 24 assists.

In the match against UW-Whitewater, UWSP held the lead late but were unable to hold on losing 25-23. Pam Nora (Forest Lake, MN) and Brinkman each had six kills for the Pointers. Brinkman added 10 digs in the defeat.

The Warhawks were led by Caitlin Hogan (New London, Wisc.) who hit .316 with nine kills and Tricia Foldy (Muskego, Wisc.) with 11 digs.

The Pointers hit the road for the Colorado College Tournament September 4-5 in Colorado Springs, Colo.
