RIVER FALLS - The UW-Stevens Point women's basketball team shot just 38.6 percent from the floor on Saturday afternoon, including 35.5 (11-31) in the second half, as they fell to the Falcons of UW-River Falls 72-61.
UW-River Falls built a nine point lead in the game's opening half, leading 23-14 with 6:24 remaining before the Pointers offense came alive, slowly chipping the deficit to just four at the break, 33-29.
In the opening minutes of the second half,
Brooke Allen (Barneveld) capped a 6-2 Pointer run, tying the game for the first time since the early going, 35-35. Again River Falls began to slowly add to their lead building a 13 point advantage, 60-47, with 7:14 remaining in the period.
Down the stretch the Pointers could get no closer than eight, as the Falcons handed the Pointers their first conference loss of the young season, a feat not accomplished last season until February.
Britta Petersen's (Luck) 22 points and five rebounds led all scorers while
Andrea Flease (New London) added 16 points in 34 minutes of work, adding four assists.
Tiffany Gregorich led the Falcons with 19 points while Brittany Gregorich added 14 off the bench.
The 15th-ranked Pointers return home for a match-up with the sixth-ranked Warhawks of UW-Whitewater on Wednesday, Dec. 9. Game time in Berg Gym is set for 7 p.m.
