Post-Game Interview with Coach Nichol
STEVENS POINT - In a see-saw battle the UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team defeated the Bethel University Royals 5-4 Saturday night at K.B. Willett Arena.
Garrett Suter (Madison) led the Pointers with two goals and one assist.
Stevens Point got the scoring started with two goals in the first period.
Donnie Hallmark (Ontario, CA) scored off passes from
Korey O'Brien (Southgate, MI) and
Travis Erstad (Stevens Point). O'Brien then scored off passes from
Kyle Greco (Hillside, IL) and Suter to give the Pointers a two goal edge.
The Royals answered in the first period when Jake Calleja scored a power play goal assisted by Jack Paul and Chris Fiala. The Royals kept the scoring going in the second period when Christian Ostigaard found the net on a shorthanded goal off a pass from Corey Grandner.
Bethel then took the lead off a goal by Tom Menozzi and was assisted by Christian Fogert.
The Pointers tied it up on a power play goal by Suter with
Luke Nesper (Eagle River) assisting in the midway through the second period.
Justin Johnson (Eau Claire) added another goal for the Pointers at the start of the third period to give UWSP a one goal edge. Suter put the Pointers up by two off an Erstad assist 11 minutes in making the score 5-3.
Fiala added a late goal for the Royals but it was not enough as the Pointer defense and
Nick Graves (Hewitt) held on for the 5-4 victory.
Graves finished with 16 saves for the Pointers, earning his second victory in net. Bethel keeper Aaron Damjanovich tallied 26 saves in a losing effort for the Royals.
The Pointers hit the road for the next two weekends as they travel to St. Norbert November 13-14 and UW-Stout November 20-21.
