STEVENS POINT- Behind an offensive outburst of 472 yards, the UW-Stevens Point football team defeated UW-River Falls 45-15 Saturday afternoon at Community Stadium at Goerke Park. The Pointers scored 24 unanswered points to start the game and led 24-0 at halftime.

Kicker Andrew Clohan (Stevens Point) got the scoring started for Stevens Point with a 40 yard field goal with 9:38 left in the first quarter.

The Pointers wasted no time in the second quarter with a 31 yard touchdown pass from Jared Beckwith (Baraboo) to Anthony Aker (Milwaukee) to make the score 10 -0. Beckwith finished the day 21 of 28 for 279 yards and three touchdowns.

Special teams contributed to the action next as Kody Morgan (Iola) returned a punt 25 yards for a touchdown to put the Pointers up 17-0 with 6:04 left in the first half. Morgan was part of a defense that held the Falcons to 185 total yards and forced eight Falcon punts.

After forcing a River Falls punt the Pointers took over at their own 20 yard line and on the ensuing play Beckwith hooked up with Jake Swank (Oregon) for an 80 yard touchdown pass to put the Pointers up 24-0 going into halftime. Swank finished with three catches for 90 yards and one touchdown.

Running back Garrett Medenwald (Green Bay), not to be left out of the action, with 13:57 left in the 3rd quarter broke loose for a 39 yard touchdown run to add to the Pointers lead. Medenwald ended the day with 15 carries for 128 yards and two touchdowns.

River Falls finally got on the board with 4:30 left in the 3rd quarter when B.J. Letourneau found Eric Brewster for a 25 yard touchdown pass to make the score 31-7. Letourneau finished the day 11 of 21 for 116 yards and one touchdown.

The Pointers answered right back with an 11 yard touchdown pass from Beckwith to Jared Jenkins (Milwaukee). Jenkins had a big day with 11 catches for 131 yards and one touchdown.

Mendenwald wasn't done as he banged through from four yards out to add to the Pointers lead at 45-7. River Falls added a late touchdown to make the score 45-15.

John Jones (Oregon) and Peter Peterson (Pittsville) led the Pointer defense with nine tackles each.

Stevens Point returns to action next Saturday, November 14 when they travel to take on UW-Platteville, kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m. in the final regular-season game of the season.
