STEVENS POINT –
Harrison Niemann (Canton, MI) scored two goals and four other Pointers tallied goals as the Pointers defeated Marian University 6-2 in nonconference men's hockey action Saturday evening at K.B. Willett Arena.
The Pointers struck first in the game's opening period, as
Donnie Hallmark (Ontario, CA) found the back of the net at the 8:45 mark, giving the Pointers the 1-0 edge.
Eight minutes later
Kyle Greco (Hillside, IL), who assisted on Hallmark's goal, got in on the scoring action, scoring off a Hallmark and
Johnny Meo (Vernon Hills, IL) pass, giving the Pointers a 2-0 advantage.
At the start of the second, Niemann scored just :28 in, shorthanded, off a
Jon Madden (Brighton, MI) and
Garrett Suter (Madison) assist, giving UWSP a three goal lead.
Nick Kenney (Wixom, MI) and Madden scored next , giving the Pointers a 5-0 edge midway through the second period.
Marian took advantage of a power play opportunity at the 14:19 mark of the second but Niemann pushed the advantage back to five, 6-1 at the 15:23 mark, this time off
Sean McNeely (Brooklyn Park, MN) and
Sam Graham (Los Angeles, CA) passes to give the Pointers the edge heading to the third.
Marian added a goal at the 19:36 mark of the third, scoring on the power play to make the final score 6-2.
Nick Graves (Hewitt) earned the victory in net for the Pointers, stopping the four game losing streak, notching 16 saves.
The Pointers return to action on Friday, Dec. 4 when they host UW-Superior in a weekend series at K.B. Willett Arena. Friday's game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
