GREEN BAY – The UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team held a 3-2 advantage in the second period against the No. 1 ranked Green Knights of St. Norbert College on Friday evening, but two late second period goals and five third period goals overwhelmed the Pointers, as St. Norbert skated to the 9-3 victory.
After going down 2-0 in the first, UW-Stevens Point came firing back, scoring three unanswered goals in the second period, as
Jon Bockmann (Wind Lake),
Alex Handy (Carmel, IN) and
Nick Kenney (Wixom, MI) tallied goals for the Pointers, giving UWSP the 3-2 edge.
With 15:08 gone by in the second, St. Norbert tied the game at 3-3 with a goal by Scott Pulak and added another at the 19:15 mark of the second, this time as Brandon Longley scored, giving the Green Knights the edge heading into the third.
In the third, it was all Green Knights, as St. Norbert took advantage six third period penalties by the Pointers, scoring five power play goals, to pull way for the 9-3 victory.
The Pointers will get another crack at the top-ranked Green Knights on Saturday, when the teams take to the ice for another Northern Collegiate Hockey Association game, scheduled for a 7 p.m. start.
