PLATTEVILLE -
Vicki Bieschke (Oconomowoc) scored twice and
Kirsti Nickels (Appleton) and
Sammy Greer (Rubicon) added one goal each as the Pointers ended a two game scoring drought on their way to a 4-0 shutout of the Pioneers of UW-Platteville under the lights at Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium.
The win by the Pointers snaps a two game winning streak by the Pioneers and improves UW-Stevens Point to 23-0-1 all-time against UW-Platteville.
Bieschke started the Pointer scoring early, tapping in a pass from
Jackie Spees (Wisconsin Rapids) at the 8:22 mark, giving UWSP the early edge.
Just over four minutes later, Bieschke struck again, this time off a header from Nickels, her fifth goal of the season, giving the Pointers a 2-0 advantage the held until halftime.
In the second half, Nickels scored her fourth goal of the season, heading the ball past Platteville goalkeeper Kaitlyn Wiedeman off a centering pass from Spees to give the Pointers a three goal edge in the 66th minute.
Greer added her third goal of the season, the Pointers fourth of the game, in the 88th minute, to cap the Pointers scoring, kicking home a rebound off a
Jessica Wieland (Muskego) shot.
On the evening, the Pointer defense allowed just two Pioneer shots, none on goal, as goalkeeper
Liz Hunter (Stevens Point) tallied her seventh win of the season, sixth by shutout.
UW-Stevens Point (7-3-1, 5-0-0 WIAC) returns to action on Sunday, Oct. 11 when the team travels to Madison for a 1 p.m. match-up with the Eagles of Edgewood College.
