ST. PAUL, Minn. – The No. 22 ranked UW-Stevens Point women's soccer team suffered just their third defeat of the 2009 season on Saturday, falling 1-0 to the Tommies of St. Thomas.
The Pointers and Tommies battled to a scoreless first half as
Liz Hunter (Stevens Point) and her counterpart Amanda Domeier each turned away the other team's scoring opportunities.
In the second half, St. Thomas broke through, as Regina Horak's shot deflected off the goalkeeper and into the net giving the Tommies the 1-0 advantage.
Domeier and the St. Thomas defense put the clamps on the Pointer offense the rest of the way, allowing only two shot on goal by the Pointers in the second half to hold the Pointers scoreless and record the victory.
Hunter finished the day with six saves in net while Domeier of St. Thomas tallied four.
UW-Stevens Point (6-3, 4-0 WIAC) returns to action on Sunday, Oct. 4 when they face Gustavus Adolphus in St. Peter, Minn. in action beginning at 2 p.m.
