MADISON – The UW-Stevens Point women's soccer team improved to 8-3-1 on the season with a 2-0 defeat of the Eagles of Edgewood College Sunday afternoon.

Vicki Bieschke (Oconomowoc) tallied her sixth goal of the season at the 25:44 mark of the first half off a Mary Jean Cornelius (West Bend) pass to give the Pointers the early one goal edge.

Just over twelve minutes into the second half, Kirsti Nickels (Appleton) joined in on the scoring action, notching her fifth goal of the season off a Jackie Spees (Wisconsin Rapids) crossing pass, giving the Pointers the 2-0 edge.

The rest of the way, the Pointer defense held stout, not allowing a single second-half shot by the Eagles and no shots on goal the entire game, as goalkeeper Liz Hunter (Stevens Point/SPASH) tallied her eighth shutout of the season, not recording a save in the game.

UW-Stevens Point returns to action on Wednesday, Oct. 14 when they travel to La Crosse for a 5 p.m. match-up with the Eagles before returning home to face UW-Eau Claire on Saturday, Oct. 17.
