STEVENS POINT - The UW-Stevens Point volleyball team split a pair of matches on Saturday, falling to Millikin University 3-1 before rebounding with a convincing 3-0 win over Finlandia in non-conference action at Berg Gym.
Against Millikin, the Pointers jumped in front thanks to a 25-13 win in the first set, but Millikin came fighting back to record three straight victories 25-23, 25-20, 25-17 to secure the victory.
Morgan Bartkowiak (Slinger) led the way for UWSP with nine kills in 20 attempts while
Pam Nora (Forest Lake, Minn.) added eight and
Lauren Krum (Muskego) added six.
Chantel York (Lake Geneva) led the way with 17 assists while Nora and
Lizzy Taylor (Eau Claire) each added 13 digs.
The Pointers rebounded against Finlandia in the day's final game, posting a convincing 25-12, 25-18, 25-19 victory over the Lions.
Bartkowiak and Nora each tallied seven kills against Finlandia while
Michaela Rheineck (St. Paul, MN) and Krum each added four.
Kaitlin Wolfe (Roscoe, IL) led the Pointers with 14 assists and Nora added 11 digs.
The Pointers return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 14 when they host UW-Whitewater in their annual “Dig for a Cure” night at Berg Gym. Donations will be collected for the Susan G. Komen foundation to benefit breast cancer awareness and research. Be sure to wear pink in support of the Pointers efforts as we "Pink Out" Berg Gym.
