STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point athletics department has announced the 2026 Hall of Fame class. The 2026 inductees are: Sarah Berg (softball), Don Buntman (track & field), Mary Jean Cornelius (women's soccer), Michelle Gerber (softball), Alexis Hartman (women's volleyball), Cassandra Salmen (women's hockey), Chris Simonson (baseball), Dan Sullivan (cross country, track & field) and Kaylee Weise (women's soccer).
The 2026 Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be held on Friday, October, 9 in the Laird Room at the Dreyfus University Center. The inductees will also be recognized at halftime of the Homecoming game on Oct. 10 versus UW-Stout.
Sarah Berg (1998-2001, Softball)
Berg played for head coaches Dean Shuda, Kelli Harms and Ali Brian from 1998 to 2001. She started in centerfield for the 1998 national championship team. A three-time all-region and all-conference selection, Berg is the program's all-time leader with 130 career RBI. She played the most career games (184) and had the most career at-bats (561) in program history. Her 37 career doubles were a program best at the end of her career and are currently third-most in school history. She ranks second all-time with 201 career hits and is third with 279 total bases. Berg was a .358 career hitter.
Don Buntman (1973-1978, Cross Country and Track & Field)
Buntman ran cross country and competed in track for head coach Don Amiot from 1973 to 1978. In 1976, he set the school record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:00.24, a program record that still stands. He won the WSUC indoor two-mile championship in 1978. He was an all-conference runner in each of his years with the Pointers. He was also an NAIA national meet qualifier, top-three ranked, and in 1978, was an NAIA Scholar Athlete.
Mary Jean Cornelius (2007-2010, Women's Soccer)
Cornelius played for head coach Sheila Miech from 2007 to 2010. A 2010 NSCAA Second-Team All-American, Cornelius recorded 48 career points with 14 goals and 20 assists. She was a three-time first-team all-conference selection and picked up all-region nods three times. Cornelius helped the Pointers to four-consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances, including a Sweet 16 finish in 2010. She helped UWSP win the WIAC regular season and conference tournament all four years. She earned NSCAA Academic All-American first-team honors and was named to the WIAC All-Time women's soccer team. Cornelius was the UWSP Female Athlete of the Year for a team sport in 2010.
Michelle Gerber (1997-2000, Softball)
"Gerbs" played for coaches Dean Shuda and Kelli Harms from 1997 to 2000. A four-year starter, including on the 1998 National Championship Team, where at the World Series in Salem, Va., she caught every inning of the tourney for the Pointers. Gerber was a three-time all-conference and all-region selection. She finished her career with 34 doubles, which at the time of her graduation was second all-time in Pointers records. Hitting in the middle of the potent Pointers' offense, she drove in many clutch runs in the Pointers run to the Championship in '98. This included a 3-hit and 4-RBI performance in a victorious semifinal game against Chapman University. In the 1998 season, she played in 52 games and had a batting average of .301 with 43 hits and 28 RBIs. It was defensively, however, where Gerber shined. She was a wall behind home plate with a shotgun arm, who besides throwing out attempting base stealers, picked off numerous runners from first base. Dean Shuda, her head coach for three years, a former Division I head coach and also a coach of successful American Legion Baseball teams, has called her the "BEST" catcher he ever coached! Working closely with pitching coach Rod Runyan, the pitching and catching tandems were top quality during their tenures at UWSP. The Pointers team record during her career was 129-55.
Alexis Hartman (2011-2014, Women's Volleyball)
Hartman played for head coaches Stacey White and Abbey Sutherland from 2011 to 2014. A three-time All-American, Hartman helped the Pointers to two NCAA Final Four finishes and was named to the NCAA Division III Championship All-Tournament Team in 2014. During her time at UWSP, the Pointers won the WIAC regular season championship all four years and the WIAC Tournament twice. She was named UWSP Freshman Athlete of the Year and received AVCA All-Midwest Region honors all four years, including Midwest Regional MVP her senior year. Hartman was the first UWSP player to be named WIAC Player of the Year, both in 2013 and 2014 and UWSP's first-ever four-time first-team All-WIAC selection. She holds the single season and career record for assists with 1,512 and 5,152, respectively. She also ended her senior season ranking third in the country for assists. In 2014, Hartman was the first volleyball player at UWSP to earn Academic All-America honors and was a co-recipient of the WIAC Judy Kruckman Volleyball Scholar-Athlete Award.
Cassandra Salmen (2010-2014, Women's Hockey)
Salmen played for head coach
Ann Ninnemann from 2010 to 2014. A first-team All-American in 2014, Salmen became just the eighth All-America selection in program history. She led the WIAC in goals (18), tied for 10th in the country, and earned the inaugural WIAC Player of the Year honor that season. Her conference-best five game-winning goals helped UWSP return to the NCAA Tournament in 2014. She led the Pointers in scoring both her junior and senior seasons. Salmen was named to the NCHA All-Academic team in 2013 and earned a UWSP Chancellor's Leadership Award in 2014. She is currently an athletic trainer for UWSP.
Chris Simonson (1996-1999, Baseball)
Simonson pitched for head coaches Guy Otte and Scott Pritchard from 1996 to 1999. A three-time All-WIAC selection, Simonson finished his UWSP career ranked in the top-five in career strikeouts (222), complete games (16) and pitching decisions (32). His 280.1 innings pitched still is the third-most in program history. His 20 wins is sixth-most in the program record books. Simonson had a breakout campaign in 1997. His sophomore season, posting nine wins and helping the Pointers to a fifth-place finish at the College World Series. His 81 innings pitched that season was the most in the program history at the time. Simonson was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in 1999 and played two seasons in the minor leagues.
Dan Sullivan (2011-2014, Track & Field)
Sullivan ran track for head coaches
Rick Witt and
Brett Witt from 2011 to 2014. In 2013, Sullivan won the indoor national championship in the mile run, setting a new championship meet record that stood for five years, and was named the NCAA National Track & Field Athlete of the Year. Sullivan won the national championship in the outdoor 1500-meter run in both 2012 and 2013. He added All-America honors in the outdoor 1500 in 2011, in the indoor mile in 2012 and the indoor distance medley relay in 2012 and 2014. Sullivan holds UWSP records in the indoor 800-meter run, the indoor mile run and the outdoor 1500-meter run. He was a WIAC champion twice each in the indoor mile, the outdoor 800 and the outdoor 1500 and still holds the WIAC indoor mile record.
Kaylee Weise (2005-2008, Women's Soccer)
Weise played for head coach Sheila Miech from 2005 to 2008. A two-time all-region and three-time All-WIAC selection, Weise is second all-time in career assists (46) and points (178) in UWSP and WIAC history. Her 66 career goals are fourth-most in school history and sixth-best in WIAC history. Weise helped the Pointers reach the NCAA Sweet 16 round in both her junior and senior seasons. She led the team in goals and assists in 2006, in assists in 2007 and in 2008, her 18 assists were second in the nation. Weise helped UWSP win the WIAC regular season and tournament championship in 2008.
