ADRIAN, Mich. – The UW-Stevens Point men's volleyball team (12-11) earned wins by sweep over Adrian (7-10) and Franklin (5-15) at the Adrian Tri on Saturday.
Hudson Dresen (Franksville, Wis./Union Grove) led the Pointers in aces and digs against Adrian and in kills and aces versus Franklin. With his 24 kills on the day, he became the first in program history with 500 career kills.
Ethan Jetzer (Milwaukee, Wis./Ronald Reagan) had a team-high 11 kills against Adrian. Liam Roberstson had a match-best 11 digs versus Franklin.
Game 1 – UWSP 3, Adrian 0 (25-17, 25-17, 25-18)
Jetzer and
Kyle Smith (Waukesha, Wis./West) combined on a block as UWSP opened with a 5-0 lead. Jetzer and Smith each had a kill as the advantage grew to 10-2. Dresen, Jetzer and
Dylan Niznik (Antioch, Ill./Antioch Community) combined for seven kills down the stretch as UWSP took the opening set.
Dresen served up three-consecutive aces as the Pointers went up, 6-1, to start the second. Smith added a kill and an ace for an 11-4 lead. Jetzer had a block and a kill late to give UWSP a 2-0 lead.
Jetzer recorded three kills and Niznik added two as UWSP pulled in front, 9-6. Dresen had a kill and an ace late as the Pointers finished the sweep.
Game 2 – UWSP 3, Franklin 0 (25-15, 25-16, 25-18)
Dresen had two kills and Smith had a pair of blocks as UWSP started with a 7-2 lead. Dresen had seven more kills as the Pointers took the first set.
Ben Feld (Franklin, Wis./Franklin) and Dresen combined for five aces as the Pointers opened the second set in front, 9-1. Jetzer, Dresen and
Alec Peterson (Madison, Wis./Memorial) combined for eight kills as UWSP took a 2-0 lead.
Dresen and
Nate Arndorfer (Lino Lakes, Minn./Totino Grace) had two kills apiece as UWSP worked a 17-12 lead. Peterson had an ace to seal the sweep.
The Pointers travel to La Crosse for the Viterbo Tri on Saturday (Mar. 21). UWSP faces Judson at 3:00 p.m. and host Viterbo at 5:00 p.m.
