Pointers Open WIAC Indoor Championships; Men in Third, Women in Fifth

PLATTEVILLE, Wis.—The UW-Stevens Point men's and women's track and field teams open day one of the WIAC Indoor Track and Field Championships (pres. by Culver's) at UW-Platteville on Friday afternoon. The men are in third place with a team score of 23 and the women in fifth with a team score of 27.
 
Results
 
Adam Eiden (Stevens Point, Wis./Pacelli Catholic), Logan Murphy (Sheboygan Falls, Wis./Sheboygan Falls), Christian Pyles (Two Rivers, Wis./Two Rivers) and Nick Tuchscherer (Stevens Point, Wis./SPASH) led the men's team scoring on day one. Eiden placed eighth in the mile with a time of 4:18.16. Murphy recorded a third-place finish in the 5000-meter run with a time of 14:31.39. Pyles opened his WIAC post-season career with a sixth-place finish in the shot put with a mark of 16.34 meters. Tuchscherer took fourth in the long jump with a leap of 7.09 meters. To round out the men's team scoring on day one, the distance medley relay team of Logan Nolan (Campbellsport, Wis./Campbellsport), Aiden Leist (Hortonville, WIs./Hortonville), Benjamin Cihasky and Martin Kimmel (Deerfield, Wis./Deerfield) finished third with a time of 10:18.78.
 
Through five events, Evan Paul (Medford, Wis./Medford) is in fifth place in the heptathlon with a score of 2805.
 
Ben Kempe (Stevens Point, Wis./SPASH) qualified for the 60-meter hurdles finals with a time of 8.34 to take eighth place in preliminaries.
 
Lindsey Jossie (Pulaski, Wis./Pulaski), Gracie Ridgeway and Madeline Zirbel (De Pere, Wis./De Pere) led the women's team scoring on day one. Jossie finished fifth in the mile with a time of 5:05.44. Ridgeway placed third in the long jump with a leap of 5.62 meters. Zirbel led all Pointers on day one with the highest finish of second in the high jump with a mark of 1.60 meters. The distance medley relay team of Brooklyn Schoenick (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis./Assumption), Kya Smith (Nekoosa, Wis./Nekoosa), Ella Arenz (Deerfield, Wis./Deerfield) and Natalie Johnson (Sun Prairie, Wis./Sun Prairie) rounded out the women's day one team scoring with a fourth-place finish with the time of 12:35.60.
 
Melanie Princl (West Bend, Wis./West) qualified for the 60-meter hurdles finals with a time of 8.93 to take third place in preliminaries.
 
Kempe, Paul, Princl and the remaining Pointers open day two of the WIAC Indoor Championships (pres. by Culver's) at 11:30 a.m. in Platteville.
