INDIANOLA, Iowa – UW-Stevens Point women's wrestlers
Kara Kuge (Theresa, Wis./Lomira) and
Alexis Winecke (Baraboo, Wis./Baraboo) punched their tickets to the NCAA Championships with second- and third-place finishes in their brackets at the NCAA Region V Championships on Saturday.
Results
Kuge took second in the 180 bracket. She won her semifinal match by decision to assure a spot in the NCAA field. Then in the bracket final, she dropped the bout by tech fall.
Winecke finished third in the 103 bracket. She dropped her semifinal match by decision, but rebounded in the consolation bracket. She picked up wins by fall and tech fall to claim third and a spot in the NCAA field.
Amelia Adams (La Crosse, Wis./Logan) was fourth in the 124 bracket. She got a win by fall and another by tech fall to reach the third-place match. She fell by tech fall in that match.
Kate Riege (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead Union) placed fourth in the 207 bracket. She got wins by tech fall and decision. Then in the third-place match, she lost by fall.
Briana Martinez (South St. Paul, Minn./South St. Paul) took fifth in the 110 bracket. She earned two wins by fall in the consolation bracket.
Cadie Percy (Windsor, Colo./Windsor) was fifth in the 138 bracket. She earned two wins by decision in the consolation bracket.
Cera Philson (Thorp, Wis./Thorp) got a win by fall in the 131 consolation bracket.
Margaret Gillmore (Bristol, Wis./Westosha Central) got a win by tech fall in the 117 consolation bracket.
Kuge and Winecke will compete at the first-ever NCAA Women's Wrestling Championships beginning on March 6 in Coralville, Iowa.
