RIVER FOREST, Ill. – The UW-Stevens Point men's volleyball team (6-9) split matches at the Dominican Tri on Saturday. UWSP defeated Rockford (1-12) in four sets and fell to host No. 18 Dominican (10-2) in five sets.
Rikhil Patidar (Waukesha, Wis./South),
Hudson Dresen (Franksville, Wis./Union Grove),
Ethan Jetzer (Milwaukee, Wis./Ronald Reagan) and
Dylan Niznik (Antioch, Ill./Antioch Community) all posted double-figure kills in a match. Patidar and Niznik had 15 and 11 versus Rockford. Dresen and Jetzer had 18 and 15 against the Stars.
Braeden Fawcett (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln Way Central) had 25 assists versus Rockford.
Ben Feld (Franklin, Wis./Franklin) had 35 assists against Dominican.
Game 1 – UWSP 3, Rockford 1 (25-8, 25-15, 23-25, 25-18)
Fawcett rattled off four aces and Jetzer had three kills as the Pointers opened with a 9-0 run. Patidar and
Owen Andersen (Racine, Wis./Case) combined for five kills as UWSP cruised to the first-set win.
Nate Arndorfer (Lino Lakes, Minn./Totino Grace) recorded two blocks and a kill as UWSP took a 10-5 lead. Niznik, Patidar and
Josh Drollinger (Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson) combined for nine kills as the Pointers took a 2-0 lead.
Niznik and
Jake Knoblock (Mequon, Wis./Homestead) had a pair of kills each as the Pointers were down, 18-10, in the third. Niznik and Patidar had two kills apiece as Rockford salvaged a set.
Patidar and Andersen combined for six kills as UWSP trailed 12-8 in the fourth. Dresen and Andersen had two kills each in a 10-1 run as UWSP gained a 21-16 lead. Dresen added two kills and a pair of aces to close out the win.
Game 2 – UWSP 2, Dominican 3 (17-25, 18-25, 25-22, 25-22, 8-15)
Jetzer and Andersen combined for six kills as UWSP was down 18-10 in the first. Dresen had two kills, but UWSP dropped the first set.
Arndorfer had a kill and an ace in the second as UWSP trailed, 9-7. Dresen had five kills as the Pointers fell behind 2-0.
Kyle Smith (Waukesha, Wis./West) had a block and two kills to give the Pointers a 15-9 lead in the third. Patidar, Jetzer and Dresen had two kills each as UWSP took the third.
Dresen and Jetzer combined for seven kills early as UWSP was ahead, 11-7. Patidar, Arndorfer and Jetzer each had a kill in a 6-3 run to end the fourth as UWSP forced a fifth set.
Jetzer and Dresen had two kills each as UWSP trailed the entire fifth set.
The Pointers return home to face Viterbo on Wednesday (Feb. 25) at 7:00 p.m.
