CHICAGO, Ill. – The UW-Stevens Point men's volleyball team (5-8) played its fourth five-set match of the season coming up short on Friday at Roosevelt (7-4) by a 3-2 final.
Ethan Jetzer (Milwaukee, Wis./Ronald Reagan) posted his first career double-double with a match-high 19 kills and a career-high 12 digs.
Ben Feld (Franklin, Wis./Franklin) also had a career day posting a match-high 49 assists.
Liam Robertson (Waukesha, Wis./North) led all players with 21 digs.
Hudson Dresen (Franksville, Wis./Union Grove) also had 19 kills and led the team with three aces.
Jetzer had an early kill, but the Pointers fell behind, 13-8. Dresen had a pair of aces and
Dylan Niznik (Antioch, Ill./Antioch Community) and Jetzer each had a solo block as UWSP took the lead 17-5 with an 8-1 run. Dresen added three kills down the stretch, but the Lakers took the opening set, 25-21.
Niznik registered consecutive solo blocks to tie the second set at 5-5. Dresen had two kills and an ace to spark a 7-0 run as UWSP took a 16-14 lead. Niznik had three kills late for a 22-22 tie. Dresen and Jetzer each had a late kill as UWSP evened the match with a 26-24 win.
Five different Pointers had a kill each as UWSP jumped in front, 14-10. Jetzer had a pair of kills as the lead hit 18-11. Dresen and Jetzer combined for three kills as the Pointers took the third set, 25-19.
Dresen and Jetzer combined for 12 kills in the fourth set, but Roosevelt finished with an 8-2 run to force a fifth set with a 25-19 win.
Jetzer and Dresen had three kills as UWSP took a 4-2 lead. Jetzer, Niznik and Dresen each had another kill, but the Lakers closed with an 11-6 run to take the fifth, 15-11.
The Pointers are back in action on Saturday (Feb. 21) with matches against Rockford and Dominican at 1:00 and 4:00 p.m., respectively, in Illinois.
