EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point men's tennis team opened the spring season with a 5-2 loss to Concordia University Wisconsin before defeating Northwestern by that same 5-2 score.
Against CUW,
Ayden Knuth (Manitowoc, Wis./Lincoln) earned a 6-4, 7-6 (10) tiebreak win at No. 5 singles.
Ben Temple (Rockford, Ill./Lutheran) picked up a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 6 singles.
Dawson Froemming (Cedarburg, Wis./Cedarburg) fell in a tiebreak, 6-3, 7-6 (5) at No. 1 singles.
In the win over UNW, the Pointers won the doubles point as Froemming and Knuth took No. 2 doubles, 6-4.
Conner Kryscio (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls) and
Brady Wierzbicki (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago) won at No. 3 doubles in a tiebreak, 7-6 (6).
Anthony Janes (Bismarck, N.D./Legacy) won at No. 3 singles by a 7-5, 6-1 score.
Jacob Stinski (Oshkosh, Wis./West) earned a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles. Temple got a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 6 singles and Kryscio won at No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-1.
Froemming and Knuth both dropped super-breakers. Froemming fell, 4-6, 6-1, 0-1 (4) at No. 1 singles. Knuth dropped a 7-5, 5-7, 0-1 (8) score at NO. 5 singles.
The Pointers head to Bethany Lutheran for a 10:00 a.m. match on Friday (Feb. 6).
