STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point men's volleyball team (1-0) rolled to a 25-18, 25-16, 25-12 sweep of visiting University of Olivet (0-1) in the season opener on Friday.
Nate Olson (Franklin, Wis./Franklin) led all players with 11 kills, four aces and eight digs.
Ben Feld (Franklin, Wis./Franklin) had a match-high 17 assists.
Hudson Dresen (Franksville, Wis./Union Grove) and
Sam Jolin (Middleton, Wis./Middleton) were in double figures with 10 kills and 13 assists, respectively.
Freshman
Alec Peterson (Madison, Wis./Memorial) served an ace, the first of his career, early in the first set. Olson had three kills for a 9-7 lead.
Ethan Jetzer (Milwaukee, Wis./Ronald Reagan) had two kills and Dresen ended the first-set win with a kill as UWSP finished on a 12-4 run.
Nate Arndorfer (Lino Lakes, Minn./Totino Grace) recorded his first collegiate kill and Dresen added three kills as the Pointers jumped ahead, 11-3. Olson had five kills, four in succession as UWSP cruised to a 2-0 lead.
Olson had two kills and four aces in a 12-1 run as the Pointers controlled the third set, 19-9. Feld added an ace late as UWSP finished the sweep.
The Pointers take on Illinois Wesleyan and Edgewood at 12:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. on Saturday (Jan. 17) at the Edgewood Tri.
