STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point men's tennis team opened the season with a 5-2 win over Saint Ambrose on Saturday.
Malcolm Rice (Marion, Iowa/Linn Mar) and
Ayden Knuth (Manitowoc, Wis./Lincoln) won at No. 2 doubles, 6-3, and
Conner Kryscio (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls) and
Jacob Stinski (Oshkosh, Wis./West) took No. 3 doubles, 6-1, as the Pointers secured the doubles point.
Dawson Froemming (Cedarburg, Wis./Cedarburg) rallied for a win at No. 1 singles. After dropping a close first set, 7-5, he won the second set, 6-2. In the third set, he prevailed with a 7-5 win.
Anthony Janes (Bismarck, N.D./Legacy) also needed three sets to win at No. 3 singles. He lost the first set in a tiebreak, 7-6 (2). He responded with 6-2 wins in the second and the third set.
Stinski and Rice rolled to straight-sets wins at No. 4 and No. 5 singles, respectively. Stinski won, 6-0, 6-3. Rice took his match, 6-2, 6-0.
The Pointers head to Iowa for the Cornell Invite on Sept. 14 beginning at 10:00 a.m.
