MOUNT VERNON, Iowa – The UW-Stevens Point men's tennis team took on Cornell, Central and Loras at the Cornell Invite on Sunday.
In Flight A,
Dawson Froemming (Cedarburg, Wis./Cedarburg) won a super-breaker against Central, 6-2, 7-5, 10-6. He won against Cornell, 4-2, 4-0.
Anthony Janes (Bismarck, N.D./Legacy) also got a win against Cornell, 4-2, 4-0.
Conner Kryscio (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls) and
Jacob Stinski (Oshkosh, Wis./West) both went 2-0 in Flight B. Kryscio beat Cornell, 6-1, 6-3 and Loras, 4-1, 4-1. Stinski won versus Cornell, 6-1, 6-3 and against Loras, 6-2, 6-2.
Malcolm Rice (Marion, Iowa/Linn Mar) went 2-0 in Flight C. Rice got a super-breaker win, 6-1, 5-7, 10-3 against Cornell. He won, 5-3, 4-0 versus Central.
Ayden Knuth (Manitowoc, Wis./Lincoln) got a 5-4 (7-2), 4-2 win versus Central.
Hayden Schreier (Stoughton, Wis./Stoughton) and
Ben Temple (Rockford, Ill./Lutheran) won twice each in Flight D. Schreier got a win by super-breaker, 6-4, 2-6, 10-7, against Loras. He won 4-2, 4-0 versus Central. Temple also needed a super-breaker, 3-6, 7-6 (7-4), 10-7 to win against Loras. He got a 4-1, 4-1 win versus Central.
In Flight E,
Augie Nelson (Sleepy Hollow, Ill./Jacobs) and
Luca Hettstedt (Marbella, Spain/German School Marbella) both went 2-0. Hettstedt got a 6-0, 6-0 win versus Central, but needed a super-breaker win against Cornell, 6-7 (4-7), 6-2, 10-3. Nelson won 6-3, 6-3 and 6-3, 6-2 against Central and Cornell.
Brady Wierzbicki (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago) won both matches in Flight F. He won 7-5, 6-4 versus Central and 5-3, 4-2 against Loras.
Alexander Sedlacek (Green Bay, Wis./Bay Port) got a 6-1, 6-0 win versus Central.
In doubles play, Froemming and Janes won, 7-6 (7-5) against Cornell. Kryscio and Stinski got a 6-1 win against Cornell and a 6-4 victory over Loras.
Knuth and Rice got 6-3 wins over both Cornell and Central. Schreier and Temple also got a 6-3 win against Central.
Hettstedt and Nelson won against Central and Cornell by 6-1 scores. Sedlacek and Wierzbicki got 6-3 and 6-4 wins versus Central and Loras.
The Pointers return to dual action on Saturday (Sept. 20) at 11:00 a.m. at Hamline.
