SAINT PETER, Minn. – Sophomores
Ayden Knuth (Manitowoc, Wis./Lincoln) and
Malcolm Rice (Marion, Iowa/Linn Mar) won the doubles Draw B bracket at the ITAs for the UW-Stevens Point men's tennis team over the weekend.
Results
Rice and Knuth won four matches in doubles Draw B. They won in round one, 8-6, versus MSOE. They got an 8-2 win over Gustavus in round two. An 8-4 win against UW-Superior and an 8-2 win over Luther got them to the semifinals of the bracket. On Sunday, they won against Macalester by an 8-2 final. In the title match, Knuth and Rice were victorious, 6-3, 6-4, against UW-Whitewater.
In the main singles draw,
Dawson Froemming (Cedarburg, Wis./Cedarburg) got an opening round win, 6-3, 6-4 over Saint John's.
Anthony Janes (Bismarck, N.D./Legacy) earned two wins in Draw B. He won against Carroll, 7-6, 6-1. Then in the second round, he defeated Bethel, 6-3, 6-3. Rice got a win in his opening round of Draw B. His score was 7-5, 6-1 against Carroll.
In Draw C, Knuth got wins over Cornell, 7-5. 6-4, and 7-5, 6-2 versus UW-Superior.
Hayden Schreier (Stoughton, Wis./Stoughton) reached the finals of Draw D. He got a first round win over St. Olaf in a super-breaker, 6-7, 6-4, 10-6. He needed another super-breaker in round two against St. Scholastica, 6-3, 2-6, 10-2. In the semifinals, he defeated Gustavus, 7-6, 6-3.
Ben Temple (Rockford, Ill./Lutheran) got an opening round win, 6-1, 6-4, against Hamline in Draw D.
Brady Wierzbicki (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago) won his opening round match in Draw E against Wartburg, 6-4, 6-3.
In the main doubles draw, Froemming and Janes won in the first round against Carroll, 8-5.
Conner Kryscio (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls) and
Jacob Stinski (Oshkosh, Wis./West) got two wins in doubles Draw B. They won in round one, 8-4, against Bethel. In round two, they got an 8-3 win against UW-Eau Claire.
The Pointers are back home to face UW-La Crosse in a non-conference dual on Oct. 4 at 11:00 a.m.
