LA CROSSE, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point men's tennis team dropped a pair of matches on Saturday, falling to UW-La Crosse, 7-0, and Hamline, 6-1.
Against UWL,
Ayden Knuth (Manitowoc, Wis./Lincoln) played a first set tiebreak, falling by a 7-6 (9), 6-3 score at No. 4 singles.
Jacob Stinski (Oshkosh, Wis./West) fell by a 6-2, 7-5 score at No. 6 singles.
Anthony Janes (Bismarck, N.D./Legacy) and
Ben Temple (Rockford, Ill./Lutheran) won five games each at No. 1 and 3 singles.
Dawson Froemming (Cedarburg, Wis./Cedarburg) and
Augie Nelson (Sleepy Hollow, Ill./Jacobs) won two games each at No. 2 and 5 singles.
Froemming picked up the lone win against Hamline, one of four super-breakers in singles play. He came out on top at No. 2 singles, 3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (11).
Temple, Nelson and Stinski also played super-breakers versus HU. Temple came up short, 6-2, 4-6, 0-1 (7) at No. 3 singles. Nelson fell by a 6-0, 4-6, 0-1 (5) final at No. 5. Stinski lost at No. 6 singles, 2-6, 6-2, 1-0 (8).
In doubles play,
Nicholas Miller (Neenah, Wis./St. Mary's Catholic) and Temple prevailed at No. 3 doubles in a tiebreak, 7-6 (5). Froemming and Janes fell at No. 2 doubles in a tiebreak, 7-6 (3).
The Pointers will close out the fall slate at UW-Eau Claire on Saturday (Oct. 17) at 12:00 p.m.
