Men’s Soccer Rallies Twice to Draw with Monmouth

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point men's soccer team (6-1-1) and visiting Monmouth (3-2-2) played toe a 2-2 draw after both teams waited out a two-and-a-half hour lightning delay before the opening kickoff.

The visiting Scots broke the scoreless tie in the 40th minute and the Pointers trailed, 1-0, at the break.

In the 54th minute, the Pointers drew a penalty kick. Connor Urban (Waukesha, Wis./West) stepped to the spot and slotted the kick home to tie the match at 1-1.

Monmouth regained the lead with a goal against the run of play in the 66th minute.

The Pointers leveled the match in the 79th minute. Carter Smith's (Milton, Wis./Milton) long throw in was headed to the far post by Keegan Frederick (Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield) to tie the match at 2-2.

UWSP goalkeeper Jacob Havlik (Onalaska, WIs./Onalaska) made three saves. Monmouth keeper Luis Villa had five saves.

The Pointers are back in action on Sunday (Sept. 21) with a 4:00 p.m. match at Beloit.
