Five Pointers Qualify for NCAA Outdoor National Championships

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.—Five UW-Stevens Point men's track and field athletes qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships that will be held at SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio beginning on May 22.
 
NCAA Qualifiers
 
Derek Penzkover (Rice Lake, Wis./Rice Lake) qualified in the 1500-meter run with a time of 3:47.93 at UW-La Crosse's Eagle Open on May 9. Not only did his time qualify him for nationals, he also earned himself a new personal-best time.
 
Logan Murphy (Sheboygan Falls, Wis./Sheboygan Falls) qualified for the 10,000-meter run with a time of 30:00.16 at the WashU Distance Carnival on Mar. 28. His qualifying time earned him a new personal-best time and a spot in the UWSP track and field record books.
 
Jack Marsh (Pulaski, Wis./Pulaski) earned his qualifying mark in the discus throw at the UW-La Crosse Eagle Open on May 9 with a distance of 52.04 meters. Along with the qualifying throw, he also posted a new personal-best mark.
 
Austin Rennhack (Columbus, Wis./Columbus) qualified in the shot put with a heave of 17.04 meters at the WIAC Outdoor Championships on May 2, where he placed fifth.
 
Ian Lillquist (New Prague, Minn./New Prague) turned his final season as a Pointer around, missing most of the outdoor season due to an injury. He qualified for the triple jump with a new personal-best jump of 14.89 meters at the Augustana Midwest Twilight on May 14.
 
Penzkover, Murphy and Marsh will compete in their respective events on Thursday (May 22) beginning at 9:30 a.m. Rennhack will compete in the shot put on Friday (May 23) at 10:30 a.m. Lillquist will round out the Pointers' National Championships appearances on Saturday (May 24) beginning at 10:00 a.m.
