APPLETON, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point men's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to UW-La Crosse on Tuesday in conference play.
Conner Kryscio (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls) helped UWSP avoid a sweep with a super-breaker win at No. 3 singles. He rallied after dropping the opening set, 6-1, to take set two, 6-4. In the super-breaker, he prevailed, 10-5.
Steven Benoy (Stoughton, Wis./Stoughton) and
Frederick Diehl (Minneapolis, Minn./Academy of Holy Angles) won at No. 1 doubles, 6-3. At No. 2 doubles,
Ayden Knuth (Manitowoc, Wis./Lincoln) and
Malcolm Rice (Marion, Iowa/Linn Mar) came up just short in a tiebreak, 7-6 (7), as UWSP dropped the team doubles point.
Benoy and Diehl also played tiebreaks in singles play. Benoy fell at No. 1 singles, 6-4, 7-6 (1) and Diehl dropped his No. 4 singles match, 6-0, 7-6 (2).
Dawson Froemming (Cedarburg, Wis./Cedarburg) was close to forcing a tiebreak in both sets at No. 2 singles, falling, 7-5, 7-5.
The Pointers will wrap up the season at home on Sunday (April 27) with an 11:00 a.m. match against Edgewood.
