UWSP’s Butler, Abdul-Wahid Land All-WIAC Accolades

MADISON, Wis. – UW-Stevens Point men's basketball's Josiah Butler (Appleton, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) and Malik Abdul-Wahid (Brookfield, Wis./Brookfield Central) were bestowed honors from the WIAC on Thursday (Mar. 6), the league office announced. Butler earned All-WIAC first-team honors while Abdul-Wahid garnered honorable mention and all-defensive team honors. Shane Tarjan (Niles, Ill./Loyola Academy) was named to the WIAC All-Sportsmanship team.

Butler earns his second-consecutive league honor after an honorable mention nod a season ago. He led the Pointers in scoring with a 13.9 points per game average. He started all 27 games and racked up double-figure points in 19 games. Butler had a season-high 28 points against UW-Oshkosh starting a streak of six-straight games in double figures to end the season.
 
Abdul-Wahid repeats as an all-conference selection after a first-team selection last season. It is also the first all-defensive team award. He was second on the team in scoring at 12.3 points per game this season. Abdul-Wahid led the WIAC in both blocks, 34, and steals, 42, this season. He had one double-double on the year with 18 points and a career-high tying 11 rebounds in the WIAC Tournament first round win over UW-Whitewater.
 
Tarjan was named to the all-sportsmanship team playing in a career-high 21 games this season. He contributed seven rebounds, four assists, four steals, a block and two points.
 
The Pointers reached the WIAC Tournament semifinals and racked up 18 wins, the most since the 2018-19 season.
