NEENAH, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point men's tennis team lost both matches in Neenah on Sunday. UWSP fell to Concordia (Wis.) by a 5-2 final before getting shut out by Olivet Nazarene, 7-0.
Steven Benoy (Stoughton, Wis./Stoughton) won at No. 1 singles against CUW, 6-2, 6-2. Against ONU, he forced a super-breaker, but came up short, 3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (7).
Malcolm Rice (Marion, Iowa/Linn Mar) got the other win on the day with a 6-4, 7-5 win at No. 5 singles versus CUW.
Frederick Diehl (Minneapolis, Minn./Academy of Holy Angles) played a pair of tiebreaks against CUW. He came up short in both, 7-6 (2), 7-6 (7). Diehl also played a tiebreak with Benoy at No. 1 doubles against CUW, but the duo fell, 7-6 (4).
Anthony Janes (Bismarck, N.D./Legacy) played tiebreak at No. 6 singles versus CUW. He dropped the match, 6-2, 7-6 (6).
Against ONU,
Ayden Knuth (Manitowoc, Wis./Lincoln) and Rice dropped their No.2 double match in a tiebreak, 7-6 (4).
The Pointers travel to UW-Eau Claire on Saturday (Apr. 5) to open conference play. First serve is set for 1:00 p.m.
