STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point men's volleyball team (15-6) added a pair of wins with victories over Viterbo (2-12) and Concordia University Chicago (6-11) on Sunday at the UWSP Invitational.
Sam Jolin (Middleton, Wis./Middleton) had double-digit assists in both matches with 16 and 25 in the day.
Josh Brogren (Elkhorn, Wis./Elkhorn Area) added 19 assists against CUC.
Hudson Dresen (Franksville, Wis./Union Grove) and
Ethan Jetzer (Milwaukee, Wis./Ronald Reagan) were both in double figures with 13 and 12 kills, respectively, in the win over CUC.
Game 1 – UWSP 3, Viterbo 0 (25-11, 25-15, 25-18)
Kyle Smith (Waukesha, Wis./West) had two kills as UWSP opened the match on a 7-0 run. Jetzer had two blocks and a kill for an 18-6 advantage. Dresen served a pair of aces late as the Pointers eased to the first set win.
Smith had a block, a kill and an ace in a 10-2 run as UWPS separated from the V-Hawks for a 20-11 lead.
Spencer Baeckman (Germantown, Wis./Germantown) had two blocks and a kill late as UWSP took a 2-0 lead.
Jolin had a kill and two aces as the Pointers started the third with a 5-0 spurt.
Rikhil Patidar (Waukesha, Wis./South) had three kills down the stretch as UWSP finished the sweep.
Game 2 – UWSP 3, CUC 1 (25-18, 21-25, 25-22, 25-21)
Jetzer had five kills in the first set and Dresen consecutive aces as the Pointers got the first set win.
Dresen had seven kills and served another ace, but the visiting Cougars took the second set.
Smith had a kill and a block in a 6-0 run late and he closed the third set with a kill to put UWSP up 2-1.
Smith had four kills and two blocks as the Pointers closed out the win in four sets.
The Pointes remain at home to take on Maranatha Baptist on Thursday (Mar. 6) at 7:00 p.m.
