The UW-Stevens Point men's tennis team split a pair of matches in Minnesota on Saturday. UWSP won, 7-0, at Northwestern before a 4-3 setback at Macalester.
The Pointers took the double point against UNW sweeping all three double matches.
Ayden Knuth (Manitowoc, Wis./Lincoln) and
Malcolm Rice (Marion, Iowa/Linn Mar) secured the doubles sweep with a 7-6 (0) win at No. 2 doubles. Knuth and Rice won at No. 2 doubles at Macalester, 6-3, but the Pointers lost the team doubles point.
In singles action,
Steven Benoy (Stoughton, Wis./Stoughton) won both of his No. 1 singles matches on the day in straight sets.
Conner Kryscio (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls) needed a super-breaker to go 2-0 at No. 3 singles. He won in straight set against UNW. But against MAC, he overcame a match point in the second set to force the super-breaker where he prevailed, 10-4.
Rice won both of his singles matches with a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 4 against UNW. Versus Macalester, he took the No. 5 singles by a 6-2, 6-3 final.
The Pointers are back on the road on Feb. 16 at St. Norbert. First serve is slated for 11:00 a.m. in Green Bay.
