ROGERS, Minn. – The UW-Stevens Point men's tennis team fell to Bethel by a 5-2 final on Friday.
The Pointers won the doubles points to take a 1-0 lead.
Ayden Knuth (Manitowoc, Wis./Lincoln) and
Malcolm Rice (Marion, Iowa/Linn Mar) got a 7-5 win at No. 2 doubles.
Conner Kryscio (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls) and
Ben Temple (Rockford, Ill./Lutheran) took No. 3 doubles by a 6-4 score.
Rice won his singles match as well, 7-6 (4), 7-5, at No. 5 singles.
Steven Benoy (Stoughton, Wis./Stoughton) put up another worthy battle at No. 1 singles. He dropped the opening set, 6-4, and nearly forced a super-breaker coming up short in the second set, 7-6 (5).
Frederick Diehl (Minneapolis, Minn./Academy of Holy Angles) won five games at No. 4 singles. Kryscio and
Luca Hettstedt (Marbella, Spain/German School Marbella) each won three games at No. 3 and No. 6 singles, respectively.
UWSP will face Northwestern and Macalester on Saturday (Feb. 8) at 12:30 and 7:00 p.m., respectively.
