STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point men's volleyball team (8-4) earned its seventh win by sweep in eight matches with a 3-0 victory (25-16, 25-16, 25-19) over Rockford (0-4) in the home opener on Tuesday.
Freshman
Sam Jolin (Middleton, Wis./Middleton) posted his second-consecutive double-double with match highs of 23 assists and 11 digs. Fellow freshman
Nate Olson (Franklin, Wis./Franklin) added a game-high 12 kills and had seven digs.
Josh Brogren (Elkhorn, Wis./Elkhorn Area) was also in double figures with 11 assists.
Hudson Dresen (Franksville, Wis./Union Grove) had two kills and Olson served up a pair of aces as the Pointers took a 10-4 lead in the first.
Ethan Jetzer (Milwaukee, Wis./Ronald Reagan) had a block and a kill and
Kyle Smith (Waukesha, Wis./West) sealed the first set with his second ace of the set.
Jolin served an ace to cap a 4-0 spurt as the Pointers jumped in front, 9-7, in the second. Olson posted five kills and an ace as the lead grew to 19-12. Dresen added a kill and an ace late as the Pointers went up 2-0.
Rikhil Patidar (Waukesha, Wis./South) had two early kills in the third set. Olson and Jetzer had a pair of kills each in a 6-1 run as the Pointers got ahead, 16-14. Five different Pointers had a kill as the UWSP ended the match with a 6-2 run.
The Pointers remain at home hosting the UWSP Classic on Saturday (Feb. 8) in Quandt Fieldhouse. The Pointers face Marian in the opening match at 10:00 a.m. and take on UC-Santa Cruz at 12:00 p.m.
