Pointers Get Eight Through Regionals and On To Nationals

ST. CHARLES, Mo. – The No. 17 UW-Stevens Point women's wrestling team will send eight athletes to nationals after Sunday's action at the NCWWC Region 6 Regional. Tabitha Breitrick (Clintonville, Wis./Clintonville), Jade Herzer (Wisconsin Dells, Wis./Wisconsin Dells), Kara Kuge (Theresa, Wis./Lomira), Rose Ann Marshall (Stoughton, Wis./Stoughton), Cadie Percy (Windsor, Colo./Windsor), Cera Philson (Thorp, Wis./Thorp), Alaina Sunlin (Monticello, Iowa/Monticello) and Alexis Winecke (Baraboo, Wis./Baraboo) qualified for nationals by finishing fourth or better in their respective brackets.
 
Results
 
Herzer finished second and Breitrick was fourth in the 180 bracket. Herzer had two wins, one each by tech fall and decision. Breitrick got three wins, on by decision, one by fall and another by no contest.
 
Winecke took second in the 103 bracket. She got two wins by tech fall before dropping the final in a tech fall decision. Kelly Enriquez (Waukesha, Wis./South) got two wins in the bracket, one each by tech fall and decision.
 
Sunlin was second in the 110 bracket. She got two wins by fall before dropping a tech fall decision in the final.
 
Kuge had two wins and took second in the 160 bracket. She got a win by fall and another by tech fall. Taylor Schulz (Rice Lake, Wis./Rice Lake) earned one win by fall in the bracket to take sixth place.
 
Marshall finished fourth in the 117 bracket. She got two wins by tech fall and won the fourth-place match by no contest to advance to nationals.
 
Philson took fourth in the 131 bracket. She had three wins in the day, one each by decision, fall and tech fall.
 
Percy was fourth in the 145 bracket. She had wins by tech fall, decision and no contest.
 
Amelia Adams (La Crosse, Wis./Logan) placed fifth in the 124 bracket. She had one win by decision and one by tech fall. Margaret Gillmore (Bristol, Wis./Westosha Central) was sixth in the bracket with one win by tech fall.
 
Brooke Schuenemann (Plymouth, Wis./Plymouth Comprehensive) took sixth in the 138 bracket. She had one win by tech fall.

The eight Pointers headed to the NCWWC Championship will begin their quest for a national championship on March 7 at 11:00 a.m. in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
