NEENAH, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point men's tennis team split match on Sunday defeating Loras, 5-2, in morning action before falling to Carroll, 6-1, in the nightcap.
The Pointers won the double team point against Loras with No. 2 duo
Ayden Knuth (Manitowoc, Wis./Lincoln) and
Malcolm Rice (Marion, Iowa/Linn Mar) winning, 6-4, and No. 3 pair of
Conner Kryscio (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls) and
Ben Temple (Rockford, Ill./Lutheran) taking a 6-3 win.
Steven Benoy (Stoughton, Wis./Stoughton) won at No. 1 singles against Loras, 6-1, 6-4. Kryscio took his No. 3 singles match, 6-3, 6-3.
At No. 5 singles, Rice won, 6-2, 6-1.
Anthony Janes (Bismarck, N.D./Legacy) got a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 6 singles against Loras.
Frederick Diehl (Minneapolis, Minn./Academy of Holy Angles) won the only match against Carroll, taking his No. 4 singles match by super-breaker. He won the opening set, 6-1. Diehl fell in set two, 6-3. In the super-breaker, Diehl won, 10-7.
Against Carroll, Benoy almost forced a super-breaker at No. 1 singles falling, 6-3, 7-6 (4). Rice fell in a super-breaker at No. 5 singles, 6-2, 0-6, 7-10.
The Pointers return to Neenah on Sunday (Mar. 2) to take on Edgewood at 9:00 a.m. and Lawrence at 5:00 p.m.
