Men’s Tennis Shut Out by Carthage, Coe to Begin Spring Season

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The UW-Stevens Point men's tennis team opened the spring season with 7-0 losses to both Carthage and Coe on Saturday.
 
Steven Benoy (Stoughton, Wis./Stoughton) took his No. 1 singles matches both to a super-breaker. Against Carthage, he dropped the opening set in a tiebreak, 7-6 (3). He won the second set, 6-2, but came up short in the super-breaker, 10-4. Versus Coe, he took the opening set, 6-4. Benoy dropped the second set, 6-3 and fell in the super-breaker, 10-4.
 
Anthony Janes (Bismarck, N.D./Legacy) nearly forced a super-breaker at No. 6 singles against Coe. He fell, 6-4, 7-6 (5). He won six games against Carthage.
 
Dawson Froemming (Cedarburg, Wis./Cedarburg) lost to Carthage at No. 3 singles by a 6-1, 7-5 score. Connor Kryscio had a similar fate at No. 2 singles dropping a 7-5, 6-0 decision.
 
The Pointers are back in action on Friday (Feb. 7) at Bethel. First serve is set for 6:00 p.m.
