FOND DU LAC, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point men's volleyball team (4-3) recorded its third-straight sweep on Saturday morning with a 3-0 win over Westminster (Mo.).
Dylan Niznik (Antioch, Ill./Antioch Community) registered a career-high 14 digs to lead all players.
Liam Robertson (Waukesha, Wis./North) was also in double figures with 10 digs.
Spencer Baeckman (Germantown, Wis./Germantown) led UWSP with 10 kills.
Sam Jolin (Middleton, Wis./Middleton) and
Josh Brogren (Elkhorn, Wis./Elkhorn Area) posted double-digit assists with 20 and 16, respectively.
Baeckman had two kills early as UWSP jumped in front, 5-4.
Hudson Dresen (Franksville, Wis./Union Grove) and
Kyle Smith (Waukesha, Wis./West) combined on a block and had two kills each as the Pointers were up 12-10. Dresen and Smith had two more combined blocks and the Pointers took the opening set, 25-21.
Smith and Cale Bertrandt each had a kill and a combined block as UWSP led 6-2 in the second.
Ethan Jetzer (Milwaukee, Wis./Ronald Reagan) and Bertrandt posted two kills each as UWSP maintained the lead. Baeckman and Dresen had two kills each, but a 6-0 run by Westminster put UWSP down, 23-21, late. Smith a Dresen each had a kill and combined on a block as the Pointers won the final four points to take set two, 25-23.
Niznik and Jolin each had an ace as the Pointers took a 14-8 lead in the third. Bertrandt had an ace and ended the match with a kills as the Pointers took the third set, 25-21.
UWSP's season-opening road trip continues on Thursday (Jan. 30) at Edgewood at 7:00 p.m.
