PLYMOUTH, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point men's soccer team (1-0-2) registered the first win in program history with a 2-0 victory at Lakeland (1-2-0) in the first-ever road match.
Devin Wilkerson (La Crosse, Wis./Central) added another first to the UWSP men's soccer annals as he tallied the game-winner in the 25th minute. His third goal of the year was assisted on by
Cameron Jochimsen (Freedom, Wis./Freedom) and
Marcelo Chavez (Verona, Wis./Verona Area).
The Pointers maintained the 1-0 lead until the 65th minute.
Jack Hudson (Delafield, Wis./Arrowhead) scored his first career goal to push the advantage to 2-0.
Blake Rhodes (Neenah, Wis./Neenah) provided an assist on the play, his first career point.
Jacob Havlik (Onalaska, WIs./Onalaska) made all eight saves while playing 84:12 for the game.
Blayton Will (Appleton, Wis./West) played the final 5:48 and did not need to make a save to complete the shutout.
The Pointers return home to face Concordia (Wis.) on Sunday (Sept. 8). Kick off is slated for 3:00 p.m. at the UWSP Turf Facility.
