STEVENS POINT, Wis. – It took just 72 seconds and the UW-Stevens Point men's soccer team (3-1-3) had a lead it would not relinquish in an eventual 7-0 thrashing of visiting Northland (0-3-0).
The Pointers got goals from seven different scorers while limiting NC to just three shot attempts, none of which were on goal.
Carson Fitzgerald (Middleton, Wis./Middleton) gave the Pointers a 1-0 lead in the second minute of play, the fastest goal to start a match in program history. It was his first career goal and the eventual game winner.
Riley Nycz (De Pere, Wis./De Pere) doubled the lead in the 16th minute, his first career goal.
Shade Kaiser (Stevens Point, Wis./SPASH) followed suit in the 20th minute with his first career tally for a 3-0 lead.
Oscar Adame (San Pedro Garza Garcia, Mex./Monona Grove) and
Arun Krishna (Skokie, Ill./Niles West) picked up assists on the play.
Owen Zikowski (Racine, Wis./Union Grove) made it 4-0 in the 35th minute off an assist from
Carter Smith (Milton, Wis./Milton). Zikowski had an assist in the 44th minute as he served in a corner kick that
Will Lawniczak (Menasha, Wis./St. Mary Catholic) one-touched in for his first career goal.
Adame pushed the lead to 6-0 in the 47th minute with Fitzgerald picking up the assist.
Jonathan Harwood (Evanston, Ill./Evanstown Township) completed the scoring in the 73rd as Adame added his second assist of the match.
Jacob Havlik (Onalaska, WIs./Onalaska) played the first half in net and
Luke Rice (Crystal Falls, Mich./Homeschooled) played the second 45 and neither had to make a save for the shutout win.
UWSP travels to Lawrence on Wednesday (Sept. 18) for a 7:00 p.m. match in Appleton.
