STEVENS POINT, Wis. – Playing in front of the home crowd for the only time this fall, the UW-Stevens Point men's tennis team defeated Ripon, 6-1, on Thursday.
The Pointers swept the doubles matches dropping just four games over the three doubles matches.
In singles play,
Steven Benoy (Stoughton, Wis./Stoughton) won at No. 1 by a 6-2, 6-1 final.
Josh Zaborski (Cudahy, Wis./Cudahy) and
Logan Eithun (Milton, Wis./Milton) posted identical 6-0, 6-2 wins at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively.
Connor Paullin (East Troy, Wis./East Troy) cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles. Brady Wierzicki earned the win at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-4.
Samuel Zapata (Envigado, Col./Colegio Colombo Britanico) nearly rallied back at No. 3 singles. After dropping the opening set, 6-3, he forced a super-breaker with a 6-1 win in the second set. But in the super-breaker, he came up short, 10-6.
The Pointers travel to Iowa on Saturday (Sept. 14) to take on Saint Ambrose at 12:00 p.m.
