STEVENS POINT, Wis. – In front of a raucous, capacity crowd, the UW-Stevens Point men's soccer team (0-0-1) scored twice to play St. Norbert (0-0-1) to a 2-2 tie in the inaugural match in program history.
Charlie McGinnis (Verona, Wis./Verona Area) made Pointers' history by scoring the first goal in program history in the 10th minute of play to give UWSP a 1-0 lead.
Jack Hudson (Delafield, Wis./Arrowhead) and
Connor Urban (Waukesha, Wis./West) added assists.
The lead held up until the 56th minute as the Green Knights pulled even at 1-1.
Just 29 seconds later,
Devin Wilkerson (La Crosse, Wis./Central) put UWSP back in front with an unassisted goal.
In the 65th minute, SNC drew even again and the match remained tied through the final whistle.
UWSP goalkeeper
Jacob Havlik (Onalaska, WIs./Onalaska) made five saves in his collegiate debut. SNC goalkeeper Ryan Fleming had just one save.
The Pointers return to action on Tuesday (Sept. 3) as UWSP hosts Edgewood for a 7:30 p.m. match.
