Bartelt Takes 400-Meter Hurdles Crown on Final Day of WIAC Championships

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point track and field teams closed out action in Platteville at the WIAC Championships (presented by Culver's) with both teams remaining in seventh. The men scored 51 team points and the women tallied 26 team points.
 
Results
 
For the women, Ashley Bartelt (Hartford, Wis./Hartford Union) logged a first-place victory in the 400-meter hurdles for the Pointers. Bartelt finished with a season-best time of 1:03.03.
 
The relay unit of Malina Carattini (Mosinee, Wis/Mosinee), Anetha Vogele (Necedah, Wis./Necedah), Jaimie Deschand (Fond du Lac, Wis./Fond du Lac) and Bartelt finished fourth in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:58.01.
 
Bella Harriman (Cloquet, Minn./Cloquet) registered an eighth-place finish in the shot put with a heave of 12.42 meters (40' 9").
 
Taylor Schulz (Rice Lake, Wis./Rice Lake) tossed her way to a ninth-place finish in the discus throw with a throw of 39.54 meters (129' 9").
 
For the men, Braedon Gilles (Middleton, Wis./Middleton) earned a podium finish, placing third in the 800-meter run finals with a time of 1:53.07.
 
Logan Murphy (Sheboygan Falls, Wis./Sheboygan Falls) logged a third-place podium finish in the 5000-meter run with a time of 14:51.99.
 
Casey Ploederl (Clintonville, Wis./Clintonville) and Ian Lillquist (New Prague, Minn./New Prague) had top performances in the jump events. Ploederl took third in the high jump with a height of 2.06 meters (6' 9"). Lillquist worked his way to a third-place place mark in the triple jump with a distance of 14.86 meters (48' 9").
 
Austin Rennhack (Columbus, Wis./Columbus) placed fourth in the shot put with a heave of 16.39 meters (53' 9.25").
 
Brad Brewer (Slinger, Wis./Slinger) and Jasmine Schnelle (Edgar, Wis./Edgar) each represented UWSP on the WIAC All-Sportsmanship teams.
 
The Pointers will head south next for the St. Francis Fighting Chance meet on Thursday (May 9).
