STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point men's tennis team fell to UW-Whitewater in the league opener on Sunday by an 8-1 score.
Steven Benoy (Stoughton, Wis./Stoughton) and
Frederick Diehl (Minneapolis, Minn./Academy of Holy Angles) won their No. 1 doubles match in a tiebreak, 8-7 (5) for the Pointers' only win of the day.
Benoy won five games in his No. 1 singles match. Diehl won three games at No. 2 singles.
Hayden Schreier (Stoughton, Wis./Stoughton) and
Luca Hettstedt (Marbella, Spain/German School Marbella) each won five games at No. 3 and No. 4 singles, respectively. The pair teamed up at No. 2 doubles for an 8-3 loss.
Samuel Zapata (Envigado, Col./Colegio Colombo Britanico) and
Dan Harris (Eau Claire, Wis./Altoona) also were on the short end of an 8-3 score at No. 3 doubles. Zapata and
Dominik Hendrickson (Menomonie, Wis./Menomonie) won four games each at No. 6 and No. 5 singles, respectively.
The Pointers continue league play at UW-La Crosse on Wednesday (April 10). Start time is slated for 3:00 p.m.
